Kevin Zhao is one of Equity Methods’ most experienced valuation professionals, with deep expertise in fair value measurement issues related to ASC 718, 470, 805, 820, and IRC 409A. At Equity Methods, Kevin oversees advanced valuations applying Monte Carlo simulation techniques for a wide variety of financial instruments. Kevin also provides technical oversight and direction to the practice’s most complex share-based payments (e.g. TSR awards) and share-based transactions such as convertible debt and contingent considerations (i.e. earnouts). Privately-held companies rely on Kevin’s expertise in derivatives pricing and financial modeling for their ongoing valuations and while in the process of going public.
Kevin’s career in quantitative finance began in the area of fixed-income valuation, with topics ranging from mortgage-backed securities to caps, floors, and swaps. Prior to joining Equity Methods, Kevin spent three years conducting research in chemistry at the University of Arizona under grants from the US Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. Kevin also served as an instructor at the University of Arizona, where he trained students in problem-solving and communication skills in the physical sciences. Kevin holds an MS in finance and an MA in chemistry, both from the University of Arizona. He is a SAS Certified Base Programmer.
